Standard grits run from 24# up to 240#, covering the full grinding-to-finishing sequence.
GrindX™ diamond abrasive filament is produced in 24#, 36#, 46#, 60#, 80#, 120#, 180# and 240# grit sizes. A typical stone workflow moves from coarse to fine in steps: each grit stage removes the scratches left by the previous one, so choosing the right starting grit and progression matters as much as the final grit.
| Grit range | Role in the process | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 24# to 46# | Aggressive stock removal | Levelling sawn slabs, removing deep saw marks |
| 60# to 120# | Smoothing and refining | Removing coarse scratches, homogenizing the surface |
| 180# to 240# | Fine pre-polish | Preparing the surface for polishing or fine textured finishes |
Practical selection tips
- Start from the grit that removes your current surface defects, not from the coarsest grit available.
- Jump no more than one or two grit steps between stages to avoid visible scratch patterns.
- For brushes that must do both grinding and finishing, medium grits around 60# to 120# are the workhorses.
