Pick diameter by balancing cutting aggression against finish quality.
GrindX™ diamond abrasive filament is made from 0.3 mm up to 2.5 mm. A thicker filament is stiffer and carries more abrasive into the surface, so it removes stock faster and resists wear longer, but it leaves a coarser texture. A thinner filament flexes into surface unevenness and spreads contact more evenly, producing a finer, more uniform finish at the cost of slower stock removal.
0.3 to 0.6 mmFine finishing and light texturing on delicate profiles.
0.8 to 1.2 mmGeneral-purpose grinding and honing on flat and curved work.
1.5 to 2.5 mmHeavy stock removal on powerful machines and coarse grit stages.
Three checks before you decide
- Brush density: thinner filaments need higher tuft density to keep contact pressure on the stone.
- Machine power: stiff large-diameter filaments increase load, so confirm your machine can hold stable speed.
- Trim length: long trim lengths amplify filament deflection; go one step stiffer (thicker) if the brush feels soft.
