Why does the PA612 nylon matrix matter for diamond abrasive filament?

The matrix decides how long the diamond stays working, and PA612 is built for that job.
Diamond grit only cuts while it is held in the nylon. The matrix must stay stiff under friction heat, resist water uptake on wet grinding lines, and wear at a controlled rate so fresh grit is exposed steadily instead of falling out prematurely. Nylon 612 (PA612) was chosen for GrindX™ filament precisely because it scores highest on all three counts among common brush nylons.
| Property | PA6 | PA610 | PA612 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moisture absorption | High, softens when wet | Low | Lowest of the three |
| Stiffness retention | Drops when warm and wet | Good | Best, stable at grinding temperatures |
| Grit retention and wear pattern | Fast wear, uneven exposure | Controlled | Controlled, steady fresh-grit exposure |
What this means on the shop floor
- Consistent contact pressure across a shift, because filaments do not go limp as they heat up.
- Predictable brush life, since the matrix wears back evenly instead of shedding grit in clumps.
- Suitable for wet and humid grinding environments where PA6 filaments lose stiffness quickly.
