Hybrid Abrasive Filament

Can SleekEven customize hybrid abrasive formulations?

Yes - blend ratio is the customization that makes hybrid filament powerful. Because hybrid performance depends on how the two abrasives share the work, the blend itself is a design parameter. We tune diamond-to-silicon-carbide loading to your material and pass sequence, then set diameter, grit, color and length around it. Blend ratioDiamond : SiC loading tuned to stone hardness and finish target. Diameter and grit0.3 to 2.5 mm, grits 24# to 240#, custom grit mix on request. Color and lengthCustom colors; 1250 mm standard, other lengths on request. How a hybrid OEM project runs 1. Line review: Share stone type, pass sequence and current filament performance. 2. Blend proposal: We propose blend ratio, grit and diameter with expected life and finish. 3. Trial and scale: Sample brushes on your line, measure cost per square metre, then scale to production. Program terms are in our OEM FAQ; product details on the Hybrid Abrasive Filament page.

How long does hybrid filament last compared with pure silicon carbide?

Life sits between pure silicon carbide and pure diamond - longer than SiC, at a cost much closer to SiC. In a pure silicon carbide filament, every grain is consumed by the work. In a hybrid strand, the diamond portion - the most wear-resistant abrasive available - keeps cutting long after much of the silicon carbide has done its job, slowing the overall wear rate. Filament Relative life Relative abrasive cost Best fit Pure silicon carbide Baseline (shortest) Lowest Fast prep, soft materials, cost-first jobs Hybrid Longer than SiC Moderate Medium-hard stone, balanced programs Pure diamond Longest Highest Hard stone, maximum life, premium finish How to read this If your current pure silicon carbide brushes wear out too fast on stone, hybrid usually extends change intervals meaningfully without jumping to diamond pricing. Test one brush position first and measure square metres processed per brush - that number decides it. Can hybrid abrasive filament run wet and dry?

Yes - and on stone lines, wet running is usually the recommended mode. Water cools the contact zone, suppresses dust and flushes debris out of the brush face. For hybrid filament this matters doubly: silicon carbide cuts fast and generates heat, and diamond performs best when the surface stays cool. Why the filament handles water PA612 matrix: Very low moisture absorption keeps filaments stiff in slurry. Bonded grit: Both abrasives are embedded in the strand, not coated on, so they do not wash out. Proven in stone lines: Same PA612 base as our diamond filament, used in wet slab lines daily. Dry running works when Portable tools: Handheld brushing and small stations where water is impractical. Light passes: Short, light contact generates manageable heat. Dust control: Pair dry running with extraction to keep the surface and air clean. Line setup guidance is available via our OEM program.

What grit sizes and diameters are available for hybrid filament?

Standard grits 24# to 240#, diameters 0.3 to 2.5 mm, 1250 mm standard length - plus tunable blend ratios. Hybrid filament shares the GrindX size platform with the diamond, silicon carbide and aluminum oxide ranges, so the same brush bodies and tooling work across all material types. Parameter Standard range Notes Grit 24#, 36#, 46#, 60#, 80#, 120#, 180#, 240# Coarse for removal, fine for pre-polish Diameter 0.3 - 2.5 mm Any size in range for your brush design Length 1250 mm standard Other lengths on request Blend ratio Diamond : SiC tunable Customized for stone hardness and finish target Choosing by pass Early grinding passes take coarse grits where silicon carbide dominates the work; later honing and pre-polish passes take fine grits where the diamond portion matters more. We can match blend ratio to your pass sequence during spec review. Blend tuning and samples run through our OEM program.

How does hybrid filament cut abrasive cost without sacrificing finish?

You pay for diamond only where it earns its keep - on fine cutting - while silicon carbide does the cheap bulk work. In pure diamond filament, diamond is present throughout the strand, including the passes where its hardness is wasted on rough stock removal. A hybrid strand reallocates that cost. Where the saving comes from 1. Bulk removal: Silicon carbide grains remove stock at a fraction of diamond's cost per carat. 2. Diamond loading: A smaller, targeted diamond loading still protects finish quality and brush life. 3. Life balance: Total life sits between pure silicon carbide and pure diamond - right where medium-hard stone lines need it. What you give up - and what you keep You give up some service life versus pure diamond on hard stone. You keep a finish that stays close to diamond quality on medium-hard materials, plus a lower abrasive cost per brush and per square metre processed. For most medium-hard stone programs, that trade is clearly favourable. Cost and spec details on the Hybrid Abrasive Filament page.

Which stone types suit hybrid abrasive filament best?

Medium-hard stone is the home turf: marble, engineered stone, limestone and softer granites. Hybrid filament is calibrated so that its two abrasives share the workload correctly on medium-hard materials. On softer stone the blend cuts fast and finishes cleanly; on very hard granite the silicon carbide portion wears too quickly and pure diamond becomes the better investment. Stone type Hybrid performance Marble Fast grinding and honing with clean, uniform finish; diamond keeps edges crisp. Engineered / quartz stone Stable stock removal on resin-bound surfaces without excessive heat. Limestone and travertine Gentle but efficient honing and texture work. Softer granites Good balance of life and finish where full diamond is not justified. Hard granite Possible but pure diamond filament usually wins on life - compare first. Typical applications Slab grinding, surface honing, polish preparation and anti-slip textured finishes on automatic stone lines and handheld brushing stations. Grit selection follows the same logic as other filaments: coarse for removal, fine for pre-polish. Hard-stone programs are covered in the Diamond Abrasive Filament FAQ.

When should I choose hybrid filament instead of pure diamond filament?

Hybrid for medium-hard stone and tighter budgets; pure diamond for hard stone and maximum life. The decision comes down to material hardness and cost targets. On medium-hard stone, the silicon carbide portion of a hybrid filament does the heavy lifting efficiently, and diamond handles the finishing duties - so you keep most of the diamond quality at a fraction of the abrasive cost. Choose hybrid when Stone is medium-hard: Marble, engineered stone and softer granites grind efficiently without full diamond. Budget is tight: Cost per brush drops meaningfully versus pure diamond filament. Finish target is good: Not ultra-fine polish - hybrid covers honing and pre-polish well. Stay with pure diamond when Stone is hard: Hard granite wears out silicon carbide too quickly to justify the blend. Life matters most: Maximum service life between brush changes on demanding lines. Finish is premium: Finest polished surfaces need the consistency of full diamond loading. Quick comparison Hybrid: balanced cutting, lower cost, ideal for medium-hard stone. Pure diamond: highest life and finish, best for hard stone. Many lines run hybrid on standard products and reserve diamond filament for premium or hard-stone jobs. What is hybrid abrasive filament and how does it work?

Hybrid filament puts diamond and green silicon carbide in one PA612 strand: silicon carbide removes bulk fast, diamond keeps cutting fine and lasts long. GrindX™ hybrid abrasive filament embeds two abrasives into a single PA612 monofilament. Each abrasive does the job it is best at, and the strand as a whole costs far less than an all-diamond filament. As the brush runs and the nylon wears, both abrasives stay exposed at the tip, so the dual action is maintained across the whole life of the filament. Green silicon carbideSharp, fast-cutting grains take care of bulk stock removal in the early passes. Diamond gritHardest abrasive sustains fine cutting, protects finish quality and extends brush life. PA612 matrixStiff, low moisture absorption base that locks both abrasives firmly as the strand wears. The result On medium-hard stone, hybrid filament delivers most of the finishing quality of pure diamond at a meaningfully lower abrasive cost per brush. It is the pragmatic choice when the line does not justify full diamond specification. Specifications on the Hybrid Abrasive Filament product page.
